Trevor Larnach's Late Homer Lifts Twins Past Red Sox

Trevor Larnach’s solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Minnesota Twins to a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday at Target Field.

The win was the third straight for the Twins and snapped a four-game losing streak against the Red Sox.

  • In the first, Trevor Story delivered an RBI double for Boston, and Nick Gordon plated the game-tying run.
  • Minnesota starter Sonny Gray was tagged for three hits, one run, three walks and four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
  • Nick Gordon rocked a solo shot off Red Sox reliever Hirokazu Sawamura in the sixth to give the Twins a 2-1 lead.
  • Boston answered back in the seventh when Alex Verdugo doubled to lead off the inning. He advanced to third on a Jackie Bradley Jr. single before crossing the plate on a groundout by Story.
  • With one out in the eighth inning, Larnach took a 2-0 curveball from Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes (1-2) deep to right field for his sixth homer of the season.
  • Jorge Lopez (2-1) notched the win after recording the final two outs of the eighth inning, and Emilio Pagan earned his 10th save by tossing a perfect ninth.
