What Kinds of Orioles Can You Find in Ohio?
Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore oriole, Icterus galbula, is a small member of the blackbird family. This family probably contains more individuals than any other bird family. Baltimore Orioles are easily recognized by their bright orange and black plumage. Males have black heads, wings, and tails, with bright orange bodies and wing bars. Females are duller, with olive-green upperparts and yellow underparts.
Orchard Orioles
Orchard Orioles, Icterus spurius, are slightly smaller than Baltimore Orioles. They have black heads, wings, and tails, but their bodies are a rich chestnut color. Males have a distinctive white wing bar. Females are duller, with olive-green upperparts and yellow underparts.
